Mary Crowned in Glory; Let us Praise, Worship, and Adore the King of Kings

The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a mystery of importance for two reasons. The first being the route by which she is made, or better stated the cause of her queenship, is that of the Kingship of Jesus Christ. Second, it prefigures the reward for us in heaven.

As for the Kingship of Jesus Christ we look to the type of King that He is. I am not referring to qualifiers one typically associates to that of a King, namely good, bad, powerful, meek, or some other adjective as Jesus Christ is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Since He is God,

as we proclaim in the Creed "consubstantial with the Father, begotten not made,"

His nature is all perfect, and thus is all-powerful, all-good, all-just, meek, and more. But He is the King in the form of the Davidic Kingdom from the line of Melchizedek. This particular acknowledgement is important is it further denotes two things. First, His authority as King, and His role as Priest.

He is the final King of the Davidic line, meaning the fulfilment of promise made to David that "One will sit on his throne forever," and in this Kingdom we have the type of court where the Queen is the Mother of the King. This Kingdom was in Jerusalem, the Holy City where the Temple was established for the worship of the One True God. Jerusalem was also the location from which the King-Priest Melchizedek came to offer sacrifice to God with Abraham; he offered sacrifice of bread and wine the prefiguring of the Eucharist instituted by Jesus Christ. The permanent role of the final Davidic King would be the one of the King-Priest, and any Priest who proclaims God, His kingdom, and the Salvation that man so desperately needs is also a Prophet; hence the tri-partite offices of Jesus Christ as Priest, Prophet, and King.

The reward of the Blessed Virgin Mary shows us what is in store for us as believers in Jesus Christ. After we die, are judged, and pray to hear the words "Well done my good and faithful servant," as we are welcomed into heaven and receive our eternal reward. A symbol of the reward is that of a crown because we partake in the nature of Jesus Christ in Baptism. When we are baptized we die to sin, and are born again in the Holy Ghost and raised in Jesus Christ. We partake of His tri-partite office (to a much lesser degree) as well. We become Kingdom Priests, Kingdom Prophets, and Kingdom Kings (or Queens). Hence the title of King of Kings, He is not only the King over all the Kings to have ever exist (and will ever exist) but they are earthly kings, of their own kingdoms and not the Kingdom of God.

The Blessed Virgin Mary is still further set apart, just as she was on Earth being the Ark of the New Covenant, but because she is the Mother of Jesus Christ. We other Christians are the adopted brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ, the adopted children of God the Father. She is the Queen-Mother who reigns by the right hand side of her Son, Jesus Christ. As she had perfectly united her will to that of God her role as Queen of Heaven and Earth is to bring all to her Son, Jesus Christ. To serve her as Queen is to serve her Son Jesus Christ as King. Her intercession on our behalf to her Son is shown in Scripture, and the role of the Queen-Mother is one of interceding to the King on behalf of the people.
